SATURDAY 7th June 7.30pm - Concert Hall Jane Irwin (mezzo soprano) / Graeme McNaught (piano) Stravinsky: 4 Russian Songs Please note changes to the advertised programme. This concert now incorporates the previous 10pm concert (now 9pm) as the second half. A suitably entertaining and varied programme for a special Saturday evening at Haddo. The first half features delightful songs by two consummate craftsmen sung by the international opera and concert artist, Jane Irwin, a regular performer at the Edinburgh International Festival: Stravinsky’s Russian folk songs, Britten's magical song-cycle, A Charm of Lullabies, and his witty, cabaret songs are interspersed by Stravinsky’s deliberately classical Suite Italienne for violin/piano. The second half, dedicated to the enfant terrible of Russian music, brings a change of mood: Prokofiev’s impressionistic early piano cycle is combined with his stark and moving violin sonata, which reveals the composer’s innate lyricism. The works are performed by Gusztáv Fenyő, highly praised for his cycles of Beethoven and Chopin, and the gifted, young Armenian violinist, Ani Batikian. Tickets: £15 (£6) |
